Adults often say they act to “benefit future generations.” This forum showcases two Millennials who use their gifts to benefit all generations. Enjoy their music and stories as City Club celebrates the extraordinary talent and contributions of our community’s young people and applauds the parents and mentors who encourage and support them.

Kate Jarvis, 17, began learning violin with the Suzuki method at age 7 from Lisa Michele, continued lessons with June Itami, and has studied with BSU professor Craig Purdy since 2003. The Capital High School senior plays in the Treasure Valley Youth Symphony and Meridian Symphony, has been selected for All-State and All-Northwest Honor Orchestras, and has won numerous competitions. In 2006 and 2007, Jarvis participated in the Kennedy Center Summer Music Institute.

Ben Kemper, 16, has connected audiences to live storytelling since grade school. With guidance from mentor Joy Steiner, he brings stories to life with song, accents, gestures and dance. In 2007, Kemper represented Idaho at the National Youth Storytelling Showcase, winning the “Grand Torchbearer Award” for his original story, stage presence and storytelling ambassadorship. The Boise High School 10th-grader has been featured at national storytelling festivals, and performs with the Foul Puppets improv troupe and Idaho Shakespeare Festival Drama School.
