Is There HOPE for Health Care in Idaho?Karl Watts, M.D., Genesis Medical Center

The United States leads the world in spending on health care, but is the only industrialized nation where every citizen does not have health insurance. In 2006, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that 54.5 million were uninsured for at least part of the year. As policy premiums continue skyrocketing and wages stagnate, that number rises. |
For many uninsured, the lack of health insurance has dire consequences, including premature death. The Urban Institute estimates that 22,000 adults died in 2006 because they did not have health insurance. Physician Karl Watts, a member of the Governor’s Blue Ribbon Panel on Health Care, offers an Idaho perspective at the May 5 City Club luncheon.
On Tuesday, May 6, Dr. Watts joins State Rep. Margaret Henbest; Zelda Geyer-Sylvia, executive vice president, Blue Cross of Idaho; and Michael Foutz, M.D., Idaho Health Care for All, to continue the discussion. This panel follows a faith-based lecture on health care by the Rev. Mark T. Davis. The program begins at 5:45 p.m. and includes a hosted reception between the lecture and the panel discussion. This event, Boise First—The Forum, is held in collaboration with City Club at First Presbyterian Church, 10th and State, Boise.
