Now a household word, BoDo (short for “Boise Downtown”) was only a gleam in Mark Rivers’ eye in 2002, when the then-37-year-old began redeveloping S. 8th Street into a thriving retail hub. That $60 million project was the first for his new development firm, Brix & Co. |
Then came the WaterCooler, Idaho’s first “creative factory.” This incubator for ”creative economy” entrepreneurs opened downtown this spring. Rivers also has revealed long-term plans for the Library Blocks, an urban neighborhood on 8th Street from BoDo to the river. What else does he envision for Boise? At this forum, Rivers will discuss the hot topics and cool initiatives he sees framing our city’s future.
Mark Rivers held senior executive positions with a number of high-profile real estate interests, including The Mills Corporation, The DeBartolo Corporation and Mirage Resorts, before launching his own companies. He is a partner with Lithia Motors in The Commons $100 million urban redevelopment project in Medford, Ore., and in Westgate City Center, a 230-acre master-planned urban mixed-use development in Glendale, Ariz. A champion for the new central library in downtown Boise, he also supports the arts and community organizations. Rivers was named the 2006 “Visionary of the Year” by the Idaho Statesman.
