“Nothing Happens Until People Start Talking”

Building a University

Friday, September 22, 2006
11:45 am – 1:15 pm, The Grove Hotel, Boise

Speaker:
Kim B. Clark
President, Brigham Young University, Idaho

In spring 2005, a decade into his tenure as dean of Harvard Business School, Kim Clark received a phone call from Gordon B. Hinckley, president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Hinckley asked, “Would you be interested in presiding over BYU–Idaho?” Shortly thereafter, in June, 2005, Clark became the institution’s 15th president, and was inaugurated last October.

At this City Club forum, President Clark will explain why he answered yes and describe the transformation of the former Ricks College in Rexburg into Brigham Young University–Idaho. It is now the state’s largest private university, with more than 11,000 students enrolled.

Clark also will talk about the school's history, its contributions to the state’s higher education and its connection with the Boise area.

Kim Clark, Ph.D., was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. He served two years as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the South German Mission. He holds Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral degrees in economics from Harvard University, where he taught from 1978 to 2005.
