On November 7, Idaho voters will elect a new governor. The challenges facing Idaho’s thirty-second governor will be significant and include sustaining economic growth, controlling Medicaid costs, meeting the challenges of substance abuse, protecting the environment, responding to needs of the criminal justice system, and the need to provide adequate educational opportunities at all levels.
City Club of Boise presents an opportunity to hear from the two leading candidates for Governor as they discuss their individual approaches to dealing with major issues and respond to questions from the audience.
Jerry Brady is the Democratic Party nominee for governor. He is a native of Idaho Falls and a graduate to the University of Notre Dame and the University of California at Berkeley law school. During his professional career he was had a number of high ranking positions in legislative and executive branches of the federal government and most recently has managed his family’s newspaper and television companies in Idaho Falls.
C.L. “Butch” Otter is the Republican Party nominee for governor. He is a native of Caldwell and a graduate of the College of Idaho. He is a former state legislator and Lieutenant Governor and is currently serving as Congressman from Idaho’s First Congressional District. During his professional career he served in a variety of capacities at J.R. Simplot Co., including director of the Food Products Division, president of Simplot International, and president of Simplot Livestock.
