HJR 2 would amend the Idaho Constitution so that “marriage between a man and a woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized” in Idaho. Attend City Club on Oct. 30 to hear Sen. Corder and Prof. Brandt offer two perspectives on the amendment’s social, political and legal context, issues and meaning.

Elizabeth Brandt teaches Family Law, Community Property, Wills and Trusts, and Real Estate Transactions at the University of Idaho College of Law, where she is Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs and the James E. Rogers Distinguished Professor of Law. She also is on the editorial Board of the American Bar Association Family Law Quarterly. Brandt serves on the Board of Directors of the American Civil Liberties Union of Idaho, and is a past member of the national ACLU board.

Tim Corder represents Elmore and Boise Counties in the Idaho State Senate. A trucking company operator and retired farmer, Sen. Corder sits on the Agricultural Affairs and Local Government and Taxation committees. He has been active in highway district, education and Hispanic issues. Sen. Corder has been praised by pundit Dan Popkey for his candor and willingness to voice unconventional ideas.
