Congress has reached an impasse on immigration law revision. Or has it? Three experts will engage in conversation about this unfolding issue at the third forum in City Club’s immigration series. They’ll discuss families and children, law enforcement, the employer’s role, legal processes and state regulations--what isn’t working, why, and what might help.
Steven Branch, Salt Lake City, is the Department of Homeland Security Field Office Director for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which handles investigations, detention and deportation operations and federal protective services in Utah and Idaho.
Rep. Raúl Labrador, Eagle, focuses on immigration in his legal practice. He serves on the Idaho Commission on Hispanic Affairs and advises the U.S. Senate Republican Conference Task Force on Hispanic Affairs. Elected in 2006, Rep. Labrador, R-Dist. 14, holds degrees from Brigham Young University and the University of Washington School of Law.
Elena Rodriguez, Boise, conducted outreach for Terry Reilly Health Services for 13 years, serving farm workers. She is active in Idaho Voices for Children and Mujeres Unidas de Idaho, and owns Treasure Valley Translations. In 2001, she was granted a lifetime fellowship from the Petra Foundation, which works nationally to build a more just society.
