Tour: Downtown Boise Public Art
Thursday, October 3rd, 2018, 3:00 pm-4:30 pm
Karl LeClair
The City of Boise’s Department of Arts and History maintains a collection of over 700 works of public art. Downtown Boise boasts a robust concentration of works within the central business district and has been the focus of investment for the past twenty years. Join Public Art staff on a walking tour to explore and learn the story behind some of the City’s most iconic and well-loved works. The Tour will cover the Basque Block, BoDo, the Grove Plaza, Freak Alley, and Main Street Station along with other artwork within the streetscape.

“In 2001, the Boise City Council passed an ordinance directing that 1.4% of all capital project funds be set aside for the integration of public art into city facilities.” Through the Percent-for-Art program, a concept popularized in cities across the U.S., professionally produced murals, performances, sculptures, mosaics, installations, and more are systematically integrated into the Boise Airport, Boise WaterShed, Foothills Learning Center, branch libraries, fire stations, throughout the city’s magnificent parks, and integrated into the streetscapes throughout all areas of the City.
